Granard

A place to live well, with support when you need it.

Located on Hospital Road in Omagh, Granard Residential Care Centre provides 24-hour residential care within a warm, comfortable and homely environment.

Granard is a little different from some of our other Easteden homes.

It is a residential care home rather than a nursing home, supporting people who may no longer be able to live completely independently but who do not necessarily require continuous nursing care.

For us, that distinction is important.

Moving into residential care should not mean giving up the life, routines or independence that make someone who they are. Our role is to provide the right level of support around each resident so they can continue to live as independently, comfortably and confidently as possible.

Support built around the individual

Everyone who comes to Granard arrives with their own circumstances, abilities, routines and reasons for needing support.

Some residents may need help with aspects of everyday living. Others may be living with dementia, a physical disability, learning disability or mental health needs that make independent living more difficult.

Our starting point is history, preferences, abilities, relationships and daily routines, as well as understanding where our residents may need additional support.

From there, our team can develop an individual approach to care that respects what a resident can do for themselves while providing help where it is needed.

The aim is to provide the support that helps residents to continue living an independent life.

Independence matters

Maintaining independence is an important part of life at Granard.

We encourage residents to remain involved in decisions about their everyday lives and, wherever possible, to continue doing the things they are able and want to do for themselves.

Sometimes that means practical assistance with daily living. Sometimes it means reassurance, encouragement or simply knowing that someone is nearby when help is needed.

The level of support will be different for every resident.

What matters is finding the balance that allows someone to feel safe and supported without unnecessarily taking away their independence, choices or sense of control.

A home that feels like home

Granard has a warm, relaxed and informal atmosphere.

Our single-occupancy bedrooms give residents their own personal space, and we encourage people to bring familiar belongings, photographs and possessions with them so their room feels like their own.

Comfortable lounges and dining areas provide places to spend time with other residents, welcome family and friends or take part in activities and social occasions.

Residents can also enjoy our outdoor patio and garden areas, as well as the “woodshed”, where residents enjoy supervised carpentry.

Everyday life at Granard

Good residential care is about much more than meeting someone's practical needs.

The ordinary parts of everyday life matter too — enjoying a meal, having a conversation, celebrating a birthday, spending time outdoors, seeing family, attending a religious service or simply relaxing somewhere comfortable.

Our team works to create opportunities for residents to remain socially connected and involved in life around the home while always respecting individual choice.

Home-cooked meals form an important part of the day, with menus designed to provide nutritional balance while taking residents' dietary needs into account.

Residents also have access to a range of visiting services according to their individual requirements, including podiatry, optician, dental, dietetic and hairdressing services.

It is all part of creating a home where everyday life can continue with the reassurance of support close at hand.

Care with dignity and respect

At the heart of Granard is a simple principle: every resident should be listened to, valued and treated with dignity and respect.

Our team works in partnership with residents and their families, taking account of each person's wishes and preferences and adapting support as their circumstances change.

Because good residential care isn't about fitting everyone into the same routine.

It is about understanding when someone needs help, recognising when they don't and respecting the individual throughout.

Could Granard be the right home?

Deciding that you or someone you love may need residential care can be difficult.

Often, families aren't sure exactly what level of care is required or whether residential care is the right next step.

You don't need to work that out before speaking to us.

Tell us about the person, how they are currently living, where they may be finding things difficult and what matters most to them.

Our team can listen, talk through their circumstances with you and help you consider whether Granard can provide the right environment and level of support.
