Mullaghcarn Care Centre

Specialist care. Beautiful surroundings. A place to call home.

Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Sperrin Mountains and close to the Gortin Glens, Mullaghcarn Care Centre is a purpose-built home providing specialist nursing care for people with physical disabilities, sensory impairments and complex care needs.

Our approach is personal from the very beginning. We take time to understand each resident — not simply their care needs, but who they are, what matters to them and how they want to live.

Everyone's circumstances are different. Some of our residents live with long-term physical or neurological conditions. Others may have experienced an injury or a change in health that means they now require considerably more support than before.

Whatever brings someone to Mullaghcarn, we begin by understanding the individual.

Our experienced team develops a personalised care plan around each resident's needs, abilities, preferences and goals. Where appropriate, we work alongside a wider multidisciplinary team, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, sensory support services and other healthcare professionals.

Together, we look at the whole picture — care, mobility, communication, environment, equipment, independence and wellbeing — so that the support around each person works together.

A home that can adapt around you

Mullaghcarn was purpose-built with accessibility, comfort, safety and independence in mind.

Our spacious environment has been carefully designed to support people with significant physical disabilities and mobility requirements, including residents who use wheelchairs or require specialist moving and handling support.

But sometimes an individual's needs require something more. We often consider environmental adaptations, assistive technology, specialist equipment and individual ways of working that allow a resident to live as safely and independently as possible.

For us, these aren't simply clinical considerations. They can be the difference between someone being cared for and someone being able to live their life.

Independence, wherever possible

Needing specialist care should not mean losing choice or independence. Our teams work with residents to maintain their abilities and, wherever possible, build confidence and improve function.

That can mean something different for every person — from using assistive technology to communicate or control aspects of their environment, to rehabilitation support, adapted facilities or simply having the right assistance to continue doing the everyday things that matter to them.

Expertise working together

Behind the friendly, welcoming atmosphere at Mullaghcarn is a structured and professional approach to specialist care.

Our nursing and care teams work collaboratively with residents, families, Health and Social Care Trusts and relevant healthcare professionals to ensure care remains coordinated and responsive.

Care plans aren't static. As someone's needs change, we reassess, adapt and bring in the appropriate expertise.

It means families can have the reassurance of knowing that while their loved one is living somewhere that feels like home, there is a knowledgeable and experienced team around them.

More than care

Life at Mullaghcarn is about much more than appointments, routines and care plans.

We want residents to have opportunities for enjoyment, friendship, activity and connection.

Our activities are tailored around individual interests and abilities and can include arts and crafts, music and dance, gentle exercise, games, gardening, cooking, social events and celebrations.

And with the beautiful Sperrin countryside on our doorstep, life doesn't have to stop at the front door. Our own transport enables residents to enjoy outings, scenic drives and trips to local attractions whenever appropriate.

Whether it's an afternoon with friends, watching the football, enjoying music, getting outdoors or simply having some quiet time, we want people to be able to spend their day in a way that feels right for them.

A remarkable setting

Mullaghcarn sits at the foot of the Sperrin Mountains, close to the beautiful Gortin Glens.

The peaceful rural surroundings are an important part of the character of our home, giving residents the opportunity to enjoy nature, fresh air and wonderful views within a calm and welcoming environment.

Inside, accessible communal spaces provide places to socialise, relax and enjoy activities, while our specialist facilities and adapted environments support residents with a wide range of physical needs.

A home first, with exceptional care built around it.

Where Your Family Meets Ours

Choosing specialist care for yourself or someone you love can feel overwhelming.

At Mullaghcarn, you don't have to understand everything before speaking to us.

Our team will take the time to listen, understand your circumstances and talk through what support may be possible.

Sometimes the needs involved are complex. Our philosophy doesn't change because of that.

We look at the person first. Reach out and contact us here.
